The Brooklyn Net was established in 1967 to join the ABA. In 1976, the NBA merged with the ABA. The Nets officially joined the NBA. In 1977, the Nets moved from New York to East Rutherford, New Jersey, and was renamed the New Jersey Nets. From the transition to the NBA in 1976, the Nets had been doing nothing for 25 years, and the best record in the playoffs was to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals.
